OCTAVE OF CHRISTIAN UNITY
Every year in January (18th. - 25th.) The Christian Churches celebrate what is called the Octave of Christian Unity. This is a time when we celebrate what we have in common as followers of Jesus Christ- one faith, one baptism, one Lord.
Events are held and Services celebrated. Our Service, this year, took place in St Albert's building on Albert Dr when Christians from the other churches came together to acknowledge our common faith in prayer the reading of scripture and sermon. It was a great evening of shared fellowship.
In the picture there are the three clerics who took part in the Service, Tom, John (the parish priest of St Albert's) and Paul.
Christian Unity Lunch
The annual lunch to celebrate the Octave of Christian Unity was held in Pollokshields Church this year. Thanks to the renovation of their kitchen, they were able, for the first time in a number of years, to host a PCT event. It was great to be back. Here's some happy images from the day including a picture of folk, working very hard in the new kitchen which is very swish and very functional. The event (a soup and sandwich lunch) raised £268.60 for the Australian Fire Relief Fund. The congregation hosting the event nominates the charity to receive the money raised on the day.
Carols by Candlelight
Everyone loves to sing Christmas Carols and we are no different here in Pollokshields Churches Together. The difference for us is we do actually sing by candlelight accompanied and led by some brilliant musicians. It is a great Service based on the model of Lessons and Carols used throughout the English speaking world. Thanks to Radio4 most people will have heard a version of this feast of music and readings on the radio every Christmas Eve at 3.00pm.
